East West Montessori School of Okinawa was originally founded in 1986 by Victory Christ Church (Victory in Jesus). In 1991, East West Montessori Academy was formed. In 1999, the school adopted its original name, “East West Montessori School”. With the name change was a renewal of the school’s goals and outlook.

East West has been a school that continually strives for and reaches  excellence and will continue to be a trendsetter for Montessori Schools on this island and around the world. The staff of East West hopes you will look at our school as a good foundation for your child’s future.

•  How East West got involved with I.M.C

 East West Montessori has a very ambitious long-range vision. Our goal is to not only become a truly excellent school, but to create in Okinawa a strong center for educational innovation, teacher training, and curriculum development. Students at East West Montessori have the opportunity to participate in some of the most resourceful programs in Asia.

To fully realize these dreams, the school entered into a long-term partnership with The Montessori Foundation and the International Montessori Council. THe Montessori Foundation is a non-profit educational organization that started in Washington, DC and now located in Terra Ceia Island, Florida. The organizations work with Montessori schools around the world. The International Montessori Council is an organization that was developed to bridge the gaps between the many different Montessori organizations that span the world. Tim Seldin, President of the Foundation and Chairman of the I.M.C., continually has proven to be a wealth of information and support. We look forward to accomplishing our vision with the help of Tim Seldin.

East West Montessori School’s goal is to give its students and education that will prepare them to succeed both in academic area and in life dealing with a rapidly changing world. Like all Montessori schools, East West Montessori School emphasizes hands-on discovery-based learning. Although the program promises to strive for an exceptional standard of excellence, students are challenged to compete against themselves, rather than each other. The curriculum that we are setting into place includes programs in international studies, along with strong programs in mathematics, science, reading, foreign language, and the arts.

At East West Montessori, there is a commitment to a close partnership between home and school, academic accountability, and an innovative program that leads students to develop extraordinary levels of personal responsibility, independence, and self-confidence.
